A free ball drops as you wave your half metallic hand over the coin slot of the antique Pinball machine at the ReliCADE, wishing you had something better to do than listen to old WW6 propaganda that droned over the airwaves. A message pops up on your socket HUD, in blinking pale blue glowing digits, an invite “You comin’ over tonite?”.
Your eyes blink, closing the HUD, then narrowing to focus. Swiftly mounting onto your hoverboard, you tap commands on your wrist, remotely starting the launch sequence on your AUFWRLD79. Scraping across the red sands, kicking up a rooster tail of dust and haste.
Gravity is sparse here, allowing you to jump high into the air and letting the board twirl into its bracket on the back of the AW79. The cockpit slides open and you land on your feet, plopping down into the worn leather seat. Popping, clicking, turning and flipping all the switches in preparation for launch.
G-forces push your unbuckled butt into the seat, an unsafe decision brought on by lust. The purple jet-stream corkscrews behind as you leave atmo, clearing the thin air veiling the planet’s surface. You don your shades. As the reflected light of the moons hit the chrome frames, the stars become bigger by the second.
A second message pops up on your screen “…bring the good stuff, you’re gonna love what I am wearing…”. You look over at the half empty bag of shimmery orange powder.
You smirk and you punch the HyperDrive. All the lights around you streak past your face, your feet feel like they’re in your mouth. A familiar feeling. As your ship enters slipstream, your body stabilizes, only to be stopped by a red alert.
Damn, didn’t fill up the HyperJuice™ tanks.
A 3rd message arrives “Nevermind, I got my fix, I finished without you”.
You take a look at your nav-cluster and then slump back into the dusty seat. You grab the orange power and think “its gonna be a long ride to the next Juicer” as you take a deep breath from the bag and chuckle.

Your job as a chronosoldier recruiter is getting tough, and it looks like the aliens are going to win the time war. You finally got clearance to go back to the 1950s to recruit more forces. Normally you'd be excited that they lifted strict time travel law allowing you to go farther back than anybody else, but you overheard your supervisor lament that the aliens have all but completely won. If only they hadn't caught humanity by surprise.
You head back to the 50s with your recruitment material, playing the holo to forgotten members of past society. The rousing anthem does its job, but your recruitment numbers are still the lowest ever. Despondent, you and your recruits load into your chronopod to jump back to present day - and the time core does NOT sound right.
By the time you realise the aliens somehow linked your time core to the exponential speed drive and drop out of the timestream, you're farther back than anybody's ever been - surrounded by the powdered wigs and pale faces of early 1700s Europe. You knew humanity was done for before you even left, but this is just insulting.
Then one of your recruits has a brilliant idea: if humanity has over 400 years to prepare for the alien invasion, maybe we won't be caught by surprise. Why not? Sure you'll alter established history, but if it means you save the human race, there's literally nothing to lose! You teach the recruitment anthem to the nearest harpsichord player and gather a crowd...

>>>> EMERGENCY TRANSMISSION <<<<
>>>> PRIORITY PLAID <<<<
The colony on Glorbulon 7 is critically low on SPACEY JUICE and all near by JUICE STORES have been ravaged by Spirates™. (Spacey Brand Pirates®, accept no substitutes; Spacey Brand Pirates® are antiaffiliated with SPACEY JUICE CORPORATION, NLC)
Your mission is to haul ass with these emergency containers of SPACEY JUICE and stabilize the colony until supply lines can be repaired. We’ve given you the best hyperdrive money can buy, an Ironstag class from Bolt Propulsion Systems, and even then the chances of arriving in time are slim. We’re putting our faith in you, Blast Hardcheese, the fate of all Glorbulonians is in your hands and even space itself stands in your way.
God speed, Captain. God speed.

(English translation)
You’re stuck in your shitty car
You can’t find the hyperdrive operation manual
You’re so slow
Nothing happens, everything overtakes you
You’re going backwards, admit it, you’re going backwards
You’re crashing the car in reverse gear
While I engage the hyperdrive
You’re crashing the car in reverse gear
In leatherette and steel
I’m stuck in your shitty car
I can’t find the hyperdrive operation manual
I’m so slow !
There something in me I can’t process
There’s like a landscape I can’t digest
I’m crashing the car in reverse gear
While you engage the hyperdrive
I'm crashing the car in reverse gear
And you, I think you’re going off the rail

You're closing in on the enemy. In less than a minute, Lone Star will be yours. Your armed forces are prepared to attack, on the count of three. But somehow, Lone Star manages to engage his HYPER JETS, enter HYPER DRIVE and evade you. But not to worry - you've got something up your sleeve. Light speed? No, no, no... Light speed is too slow... You're going right to... LUDICROUS SPEED. Your shipmates are all too busy preparing, but you know Lone Star is escaping. You don't have time to waste. You give the order: LUDICROUS SPEED, GO!
Your ship breaks for nobody. You hit light speed. Then ridiculous speed. Then, finally, LUDICROUS SPEED. As your ship careens through space and you feel your brains going into your feet, you ask yourself what you've done. You pass Lone Star, and reach a thus-far-unknown-to-man state of affairs: you've gone to plaid.
No one can save you now.
Smoke if you got 'em.

Hyperdrive engine is rumbling, jump warp enabled, then what? Boring travel that's what, let's kill space-time together, hum some beats together at faster than light speed.
